Our Volunteer Team

The NS Resettlement Society welcomes volunteers from all walks of life - those very familiar with Nova Scotia’s tradition of volunteering and others whose first volunteer experience is at Nova Horizons.

Many started their settlement journey at Nova Horizons. Refugees who first received support at Nova Horizons are eager to give back to the community that welcomed them and to support others. Over 80% of our volunteer team arrived in Nova Scotia since 2023.  While searching for furniture, they found purpose and belonging.

Our volunteer team is diverse in cultures, languages and faith; but they are united in purpose – to provide a warm welcome and helping hand to others who are starting over.

Our talented and committed Board of Directors provide leadership and bring diverse perspectives in terms of culture, language, faith and life experiences.

I joined the Board during a time of transition in my life, when I was looking for a meaningful way
to contribute my experience while continuing to learn and grow. Supporting newcomers to Nova
Scotia and engaging with diverse cultures has been both rewarding and inspiring.
